The present book is a natural successor to his earlier volume on India's Foreign Policy about which the noted Indonesian scholar, Juwono Sudarsono wrote in the Indonesian edition of the book that it reflected "the author's depth of knowledge, political experience and imprint as research scholar."
India's Foreign Policy in a Changing World analyses in depth the present international situation and the domestic interaction with it. It takes account of all the twists and turns, the contradictions and the currents and countercurrent in international politics and recommends that Indian foreign policy should be sensitive to the duality, indeed the "triplity" of the developing international scenario. It acknowledges the primacy of the economic struggle in the world today and discusses it in detail in relation to India's foreign policy. It provides analysis and information on India's relations with principal countries and regions of concern to it: USA, Russia, Central Asia, Pakistan and other South Asian countries, developments in regard to SAARC, neighbours comprising China and Burma, "near abroad" nations of South‐east Asia, Persian Gulf and West Asian countries, and the African region. It also gives due attention to the new economic powerhouses, the European Community and Japan, and India's relations with them. A separate chapter delves into India's security dilemmas and discusses India's nuclear explosions and their impact on its foreign policy and relations with other countries.
